NHS Ordering of Orione Hernia brief

The following guide explains the process of getting National Health Service Hernia briefs on Prescription.

1. Firstly, get the size right.

Select the correct size from the table below. Measure from the waist as for normal underwear. If in doubt i.e. a border-line fit in a size range, go down a size rather than up a size. We strongly recommend that you use a tape measure rather than relying on trouser waist size which are variable and often incorrect. Measure in centimetres as this is the manufacturing measure an there is no conversion to inches miscalculation.

3. Take to your GP

Quote the relevant PIP Code to your GP. You are allowed up to 3 pairs of briefs per year on prescription.
Your GP should be able to find us in the Drugs Tariff in Part IXA Appliances as 'ORIONE HERNIA BRIEF'.
Given the number of products on the NHS Drugs Tariff help your GP with a PIP code or the keyword terms above.

4. With your Prescription form (FP10) visit any one of the following:

The pharmacy will then order the brief for you. If there are any puzzled looks when you present your prescription tell them it is a 'special' and needs to be ordered.  If one pharmacist cannot or will not help, simply take your green FP10 prescription form to a different one. Please ring us on 01647 270257 telling us the chemist chain that you are having difficulty with, we will be able to help. Most pharmacies will have a 24 hour turnaround for this item. All Boots and Alliance Pharmacies will order via their Specials team and although any pharmacy 'should' be able to get them for you in our experience these are the most efficient distributors.
We therefore strongly recommend Boots Chemist as the easiest path to get this product.

Pharmacists may quote 5-10 days for delivery. This is incorrect and a generic response for most made-to-order specials. However we ship rapidly from stock, same-day up to 3:00 for next-working-day delivery to the Pharmacy.

5. Wait 24 hours for delivery.

Then pick up your briefs from the pharmacy.

How this helps your health in the short and long-term.

By retaining your hernia in a reducible state, not only is your quality of life improved in the short-term, but your  long-term surgical outcome will be improved because you will present for surgery with a smaller hernia. We hear this time and time again from customers who regretted not wearing some form of support earlier in their diagnosis. You can also wear your briefs post-operation once the local wound-size has healed up and with the recommendation of your surgeon.  Wear the briefs without the foam pad for extra support to help mitigate reoccurence on either side of the abdomen.
