Herniapants have a simple policy to treat our customers as we would like to be treated online. Essentially, we do not store sensitive information, send numerous emails and respect what little information we do collect as if it was our own. The owners have had an online presence since 1999 in various guises so we are well versed in best practice.

PHPSESSID

(Contains a PHP 'session ID' which expires when the browser is closed)

The PHPSESSID cookie is required so that our site can recognise you clicking from page to page. Without it, every page would be treated as the first visit to our site, and anything added to your shopping basket would be instantly forgotten.

session

(contains a PHP 'session ID', can also contain an email address and encrypted password, expires after one year)

The 'session' cookie is intended for your convenience. We create this with a copy of the initial session ID so that you can be classed as 'returning' and the contents of your shopping basket will still be available. If you sign in with an email address and password, these login details are also saved so that you can remain logged in when returning (the password is encrypted). If you sign out, your login details are removed from the cookie.

What information do we collect?

When you order, we need to know your name, invoice and delivery address, email address (for online orders), credit or debit card number, and expiry date. This enables us to process and fulfil your orders and to notify you in event of any queries. We also request your telephone number, which allows us to contact you urgently if there is a problem with your order. We will communicate with you by email, phone or letter as per your stated preference.

It is important to note that Credit/Debit card details including sensitive information such as expiry date, Card Security Number (CVV) is not stored at our site but exists for the life of the session and is deleted once a confirmation is received from our Payment Provider (TrustPay).

We use reputable third-party banking and distribution institutions (detailed on our home page and checkout process) to handle our credit card transactions. They receive only the information needed to verify and authorise your payment card and to process your order. All such organisations are under strict obligation to keep your personal information private.
